FROM THE BARTENDER, ALEX PENALOSA

Alex Penalosa

About the drink: This cocktail’s name is “Family Tradition” and was inspired by old family traditions of coming together and sharing love and warmth on the holidays — while imbibing on mulled wine, that is made of cinnamon, clove, anise, orange peel and red wine. This rendition of an old fashioned employs the use of a homemade plum mulled wine reduction and Olorosso Sherry to add a light nuttiness to the wonderful harmony of winter flavors. Old Forester 100 proof was selected to give this drink its pronounced warmth.

About the creator: Alex was born in San Diego but spent most of my life in Las Vegas. Since beginning his career in hospitality, he has held a love for food and craft cocktails. Throughout the last 15 years behind the bar, Alex says he has had the opportunity to work with some amazing individuals. He is currently the bar manager at Corduroy on Fremont Street, a bar he describes as a fun, fast-paced tornado of rock and roll, funk and old-school hip hop, that is decorated with the most talented and friendly Bar Stars the game has to offer. This light-hearted approach to cocktails and intricate attention to detail is what makes Corduroy a very unique bar.
