Events guide: Labor Day Weekend 2011

Enjoy the summer sun at all the pool parties this weekend, then hit up the nightclubs and concert venues as the moon rises.

This Labor Day Weekend partiers can experience a mini EDC with all the electronic dance music DJs in town for club and pool events, plus the IDentity music festival at Mandalay Bay. In addition to the EDM madness, the usual array of holiday weekend events will be available, including comedians, concerts and the obligatory Jersey Shore club hosts. When planning your party schedule, don’t forget to drop by Jet as it will be closing its doors after the weekend for renovations as it undergoes a transformation during the fall season.

Thursday, September 1:

ATB at Tao: German DJ, musician and producer headlines at Worship Thursdays. Get an earful of his trance music to start your Labor Day Weekend.

An Evening with Amon Amarth at HOB: The House of Blues presents An Evening with Amon Amarth, the Swedish melodic death metal band who got their name from a J. R. R. Tolkien novel.

PBR Rock Bar's one year anniversary party: PBR Rock Bar and Grill will celebrate its first anniversary with Professional Bull Riders Luke Snyder and Douglas Duncan. The party will be sponsored by Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Magazine, Budweiser and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. Celebrate Jack Daniel’s 161st birthday with $3 Jack Daniel’s cocktails, including Tennessee Honey and Lynchburg Lemonade drinks throughout the evening. The restaurant and bar will also offer $1 Budweiser drafts from 8 until 10 p.m. and they will be only 50 cents from 10 p.m. until close. A photo booth will also be available so guests can take home photo souvenirs.

Skin Clothing hosts at Liquid: Skin Clothing hosts the day at Liquid with exciting fashionable giveaways and music from resident DJ Que and special guest DJ Silver.

Art Show featuring Juan Muniz: Caramel welcomes local artist Juan Muniz as he unveils his latest pieces at the Bellagio ultra lounge.

Juan Muniz murals are featured on the Artifice building.

Manufactured Superstars at Tryst: The Wynn nightclub will launch the weekend celebration early on Thursday at The Affair industry night with resident DJs Manufactured Superstars, best known for mashing up popular electro, progressive, house and pop music.

Beerfest: Greek Night at McFadden’s: McFadden’s will launch the Labor Day weekend festivities with “Beerfest: Greek Night.” All local and college ladies will enjoy $1 drinks from 10 p.m. until close. For everyone else, McFadden’s will offer $20 endless Coors Light from 10 p.m. until close, $5 pitchers and $2 beer bongs and PBR cans. Sign-ups for the night’s beer pong tournament begin at 10 p.m. and anyone wearing their Greek letters or a toga will be entered into the beer pong tournament for free.

Friday, September 2:

Nelly at Chateau: It will be getting "Hot in Herre" at Chateau as rapper and actor Nelly hosts.

Air Supply at The Orleans Showroom: Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met in Australia and found success in the United States, after Clive Davis signed them to Arista Records, when their single "Lost in Love" raced up the charts. Their second single, "All Out of Love," was an even bigger hit. Now the duo will perform all their timeless classics plus some of their newer material at the Orleans.

Maryland Parkway Music Festival: This end of summer, back to school, multi-day event will feature music, art, poets, vendors, exhibits, demonstrations and more. The festival will take place along historic Maryland Parkway as well as around the UNLV district. Performers include Frontier Ruckus, A Random Article, Bobby Conundrum, Tinglerz, DVIR, Thee Swank Bastards and many more. Venus Rising at McFadden’s: Party-goers can sing their hearts out with live karaoke band, Venus Rising. McFadden’s will offer an open bar from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. priced at $20 for ladies and $30 for men. Other drink specials include a local ladies special for $1 drinks from 10 p.m. until close, $4 shots of Jameson and Ambhar and $5 cherry and grape bombs.

Rock’n’Roll Wine at The M Resort: Rock’n’Roll gets funky Friday night at the M Resort, when funk rocker Bushwalla takes the stage at the Hostile Grape’s Rock’n’Roll Wine Tasting Room and Sound Bar. Pre-game for the concert with a complimentary wine tasting from 6-8 p.m. before Bushwalla performs at both 8 and 10 p.m.

LDW drink specials at Cabo Wabo: Cabo Wabo Cantina inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood celebrates Labor Day throughout the weekend with food and drink specials on the patio. Buckets of six Coors Light, Tecate, Dos Equis, Dos Equis Amber or Sol will be offered for $20. Patrons will also indulge in Cabo’s “3 T’s;” a shot of the signature Cabo Wabo Tequila, a delicious taco and a refreshing Tecate, also only $20.

Volbeat at House of Blues: Danish rock band Volbeat hits the HOB with their Beyond Hell/Above Heaven Tour with special guests Cold & Anchored.

Joan Sebastían at The Cannery: Grammy winner and soap opera star Joan Sebastían has sold out arenas in North America and in Mexico and will now perform an intimate concert at The Club inside the Cannery Casino.

David Spade at the Venetian: He may be small but his comedy is mighty. Catch the Rules of Engagement star doing stand up.

Boris at Wet Republic: DJ Boris got his start in St. Petersberg before moving on to the NYC clubs and brings the European vibe to Vegas when he spins poolside at Wet Republic along with Oscar G. and Riva Starr.

Dainjazone at Club Nikki: The Tropicana hotspot welcomes California hip-hop and electro DJ Dainjazone.

LDW drink specials at Rockhouse: Rockhouse offers two-for-one beers, $5 shots and cocktails all weekend. Deadmau5 at The Chelsea: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas brings world-renowned artist Deadmau5 to The Chelsea for two unique shows over Labor Day weekend. This will be the first-ever time that the artist brings his full live show to the Strip, showcasing a brand new live production.

The event concept, developed in 2010, combines an over-the-top party atmosphere with special lighting, props and non-stop beats by Angello in addition to AN21 and Max Vangeli. During the day, catch them at Encore Beach Club.

Audrina Patridge and Swizz Beatz at Vanity: The Hills beauty Audrina Patridge hosts at Vanity Nightclub along with rapper Swizz Beatz who will be performing at the club and during the day at the Hard Rock Pool as well.

A-Trak at Tryst: DJ A-Trak, who has worked with Kanye West, Kid Sister, Lupe Fiasco and Boyz Noize, spins at Tryst. As one half of the duo Duck Sauce, his collaboration with Armand Van Helden, look forward to their nightlife anthem “Barbra Streisand.”

Avicii at Marquee: Swedish DJ, remixer and record producer Avicii, known for his hot track "Bromance," spins at Marquee Nightclub along with Cosmic Gate.

Markus Schulz and EDX at Marquee: German-born Markus Schulz has emerged as one of the top international DJs and producers, and just last year he released a compilation album titled Las Vegas ’10 as part of his city albums series. Hear him at Marquee Dayclub along with EDX.

Howard Jones at the Fremont Street Experience: “Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80s” music festival at Fremont Street Experience presents a free concert by English musician Howard Jones on the 3rd Street Stage. Throughout the weekend visitors can also enjoy a stage extravaganza from The Nancy Rayguns, the original production show “VJ Invasion: Launch Date 8.1.81” and Las Vegas based premier cover band Venus Rising, who will also perform on Sunday.

Akon at Chateau: Senegalese-American hip-hop and R&B singer-songwriter and rapper Akon will be performing some of his popular hits like "Locked Up" and "Smack That."

Z-Trip at Lavo: DJ, producer and mashup specialist Z-Trip, 2009's America's Best DJ, spins at the Palazzo nightclub.

Carmen Electra at Nikki Beach: Actress, model and television personality Carmen Electra will host at Nikki Beach. The brunette beauty has graced the cover of Playboy three times and appeared in numerous movies and TV shows, including Scary Movie and Baywatch.

White Party Vegas at Bare: Time to don the whitest of whites as Jeffrey Sanker, Eduardo Cordova and The Light Group present the ultimate dance music weekend at Heaven at Bare. Ray J at Gallery: Recording artist Ray J will give a live performance at Gallery Nightclub. The singer, record producer and television star is best known for hits such as “Sexy Can I”, “One Wish” and “What I Need” and for his VH1 reality series, For the Love of Ray J. He is currently working on his fifth studio album, Trust, Knowledge & Opportunity, with his sister Brandy.

College Gameday Tailgate Party at McFadden’s: The Rio bar kicks off the new NCAA season by offering guests in their favorite team jersey a free drink at the bar. All football fans will enjoy a “Happy 2 Hours” from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. for only $15, followed by an open bar special from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. priced at $20 for girls and $30 for men. Wyclef at Vanity and Hard Rock Pool: Solo artist and Fugees front man Wyclef Jean performs poolside at the Rehab pool party at the Hard Rock Pool then later at Vanity Nightclub.

Fatboy Slim Marquee Dayclub: English DJ and producer Fatboy Slim brings his signature sound and tracks like "Praise You" and "Weapon of Choice" to Marquee Dayclub. Joining him are Chuckie and Tom Gandy.

Third Annual Margarita Festival: Valley bartenders and mixologists will shake up their best margarita recipes and compete in front of a panel of national judges and margarita lovers at the Third Annual Margarita Festival at The Village at Lake Las Vegas.
