Rob Riggle is about to pop: his muscles and his career. Already, Riggle’s comedy résumé reads like a best-of list from the past decade: two years on The Daily Show, a season on SNL and small but amusing roles in The Hangover, The Office and Arrested Development. Now, the brawny comedic actor is developing his own half-hour CBS comedy series with SNL writer emeritus Robert Smigel. You can still catch Riggle on the way up when he performs standup for three nights at the Palms’ Playboy Comedy Club.

Just don’t show up looking for the typical nerdy misfit tossing out self-loathing jokes. The strapping Riggle is a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve who served in Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan while on active duty. It’s an angle Riggle has used to great comedic effect—whether by intimidating interview subjects on Comedy Central or face-Tasing Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover. Next week, the Marine/actor/faux journalist will attempt to prove he can do observational humor, too. You wanna try to stop him?
