Real-estate mogul and "Celebrity Apprentice" television host Donald Trump arrived Saturday, and after watching the final dress rehearsals of his Miss USA pageant princesses, he decreed a night of celebration.
The Miss Universe and Miss USA pageant owner gave a “thumbs up” approval to today’s 62nd annual show rundown but warned “it's going to be the toughest of competitions. The girls are the greatest, and all of them could step into the shoes of those who went before them.”
“The Donald” posed with the 51 contestants after talking with them in several smaller groups. Our Miss Nevada, Chelsea Caswell, a food and beverage manager at Andrea's in Steve Wynn’s Encore hotel, polished her last minute makeup touches before meeting “ The Boss”.
Its expected that Vegas hotel titans Steve Wynn and Treasure Island’s Phil Ruffin will be in the audience today along with Planet Hollywood owner Robert Earl.
To celebrate his 67th birthday on Friday and today’s Father's Day, Donald took his glamour girls out on the town late last night to the racy theatrical experience at The Act nightclub in the Palazzo. Miss USA Nana Meriwether was on his arm celebrating her final night as the reigning queen. She’ll pass her crown and title on to tonight’s winner.
Donald and Nana were joined in their group of 50 revelers by Miss Universe Olivia Culpo (last year’s Miss USA winner who gave up her domestic title when she won the global contest representing America) and former Miss Alabama and ABC "Splash” star Katherine Webb, who was the center of a Brent Musberger controversy when ESPN cameras lingered on her while he talked about her University of Alabama football boyfriend.
Donald, in a billionaire businessman’s navy blue suit and pink tie, posed for photographs with Olivia, who looked stunning in a silver beaded Sherri Hill cocktail dress and silver pumps. Azerbaijani singer Emin was also in the red carpet group.
We learned Saturday that Trump is moving the Miss USA show out of Vegas and to Miami for three years at his Doral Golf Resort and Spa beginning in 2014. Also, Trump said he is moving Miss Universe to Moscow in November. Trump plans to bring the Miss USA show back to Vegas after the three-year run in Florida.
Donald’s 2013 Miss USA two-hour competition will broadcast live on NBC from Planet Hollywood at 6 p.m., or 9 p.m. on the East Coast. The show will open with all 51 contestants but very quickly will be cut down to 15 semifinalists selected by the judges, plus one selected by fans.
The girls will compete in bright colorful bikinis. They’ll also parade in evening gowns and tackle the dreaded question asked by the judges. Tonight’s winner of the Miss USA title will also go onto this summer’s Miss Universe pageant to represent the United States.
Show hosts are E! Entertainment’s Guiliana Rancic and pop singer Nick Jonas, who will be joined by his brothers and DJ Pauly D for the musical portions of the telecast. Guiliana wrapped her own rehearsals dining at the LAVO restaurant in the Palazzo with friends.
Follow our red carpet live Twitter coverage and our additional reports from inside the theater until the new Miss USA is crowned. Donald has scheduled a special press conference immediately after the pageant to make a “ breaking news” announcement — and we will use Twitter for that too.
