Preston Lacy is not a great comedian. But as I think back on what I saw Sunday night, I’m still smiling. The rotund Lacy is funny in a very specific way. What he lacks in punch lines, he more than makes up for in insane style stunts.

Most remember Lacy from his time on MTV’s Jackass, famously chasing Wee-Man down the street wearing nothing more than tighty-whities and a T-shirt. As a member of the gnarly troupe, Lacy played a major role as a performer and writer.

Onstage at Adrenaline Sports Bar & Grill, he looked back on the era when Jackass caught the zeitgeist. There was the time he and castmate Bam Margera went to a full-release massage parlor in Japan and Lacy threw a full condom on Margera’s chest. There was “Apple of My Ass,” a stunt Lacy concocted where a horse would eat an apple out of his rear. The network changed it to a pig and, much to Lacy’s surprise, the swine was quite gentle getting the fruit, save for a few bites. And there was the infamous “Sweatsuit Cocktail,” which presented Lacy working out on an elliptical machine while wearing a clear plastic suit in a 130-degree room. His sweat was caught in a cup, which professional masochist Steve-O attempted to drink but ended up vomiting it all up and more. They’re fun stories, but beyond joyful reminiscing there wasn’t much added to them.

Things picked up when Lacy started doing what Lacy does best: abusing himself. He had opener Tom Garland hit raw eggs at him with a ping pong paddle. But what’s an egg without a chicken? Garland then put an entire raw bird on his fist and punched Lacy in the face. It was a spectacle of awkwardness that made some uncomfortable but others cackle with laughter.

As Lacy prepped his last bit, the Tequila Stuntman, a black audience member yelled, “I love white people!” Everyone laughed, as Lacy’s style seems like a specifically Caucasian brand of comedy.

The Tequila Stuntman, also known as the Tequila Suicide, involves snorting a line of salt, squirting a lime wedge into your eyes and then taking a shot of tequila. Lacy added to the bit by covering the salt with wasabi paste. He was joined by Garland and local opener, the Balloon Master—if you haven’t seen him, he’s worth the trip—and all three went for it. By the time the wasabi entered their nasal passages, the guys were dry heaving.

And I was laughing. A lot. There’s no right way to do comedy.
