Downtown’s Life Is Beautiful murals won’t be the neighborhood’s only walls coated with creativity come February 16. That’s because Secret Walls, an illustration “battle royale,” is headed to the Gold Spike Tuesday night.

Formerly called “Secret Wars,” the global live-art events were inspired by Marvel comics and graffiti art, and started in the U.K. in 2006. Since then Secret Walls has held over 1,000 shows across the globe, from Berlin to Toyko to Sydney.

So, how does the competition work? Participating artists are paired up and go head-to-head for 90 minutes, covering their expansive canvasses with only black markers or acrylic paint. The monochromatic masterpieces are then appraised by two judges at the end of the round, with the winner moving on to the next battle.

Las Vegas’ debut features six local artists (Tagz1, Savageson, Jef Logan, Spencer Olsen, Black57, Hister) as well as a headlining battle between Matt Gondek and L’Amour Supreme. While the creatives get to work spectators can sip on cocktails, get down to beats by DJ Edoc and “vote” with their cheers for their favorite artist’s work. If you're looking for an offbeat, invigorating way to spend Tuesday night, your search is over.

Secret Walls February 16, 7 p.m., free. Gold Spike, 702-476-1082.
