Twenty years after the release of Dumb and Dumber, sequel Dumb and Dumber To hits theaters this week. Here’s a look at the strongest work stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have done since the original’s 1994 release.

Pleasantville (1998) Daniels leads the charge of 1950s sitcom characters cutting loose as the soda fountain owner who seduces a housewife and takes an interest in erotic art.

The Truman Show (1998) This prescient depiction of coming reality-TV domination makes great use of Carrey’s inherent sunniness as the oblivious title character, whose entire life is a TV show.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) Carrey gives the greatest performance of his career in this mind-bending romantic drama, a simultaneously cynical and idealistic tribute to the futility of love.

The Squid and the Whale (2005) Daniels’ caustic, brutally funny performance as an arrogant intellectual and terrible father earned him plenty of deserved awards attention.

The Lookout (2007) Daniels is sensitive and funny as the blind roommate of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s brain-damaged janitor in this underrated heist thriller.

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) Carrey’s portrayal of a real-life con artist who mounted multiple prison escapes so he could reunite with his boyfriend is a perfect mix of outrageous comedy and genuine feeling.

Dumb and Dumber To Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Laurie Holden. Directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Rated PG-13. Opens Friday
