Frenchie Davis was too real for American Idol.

If you’re anything like me, you probably fell out of your chair when Frenchie Davis dazzled the world with her distinctive beauty and knockout voice during the second season of American Idol.

Calendar

The Las Vegas Men’s Chorus with Frenchie Davis
April 18, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., $25.
Krave Nightclub, 836-0836.

I’m not a fan of the Disneyfied reality show, but I was fortunate enough to catch Davis in what seemed sure to start her career on the ascent. But when Idol couldn’t handle real reality and threw Davis off the show—for appearing on an adult website four years earlier—America was pissed off.

Luckily, it wasn’t the last we heard from Davis, who moved to Broadway with Rent, toured with Dreamgirls, and, more recently, began hitting the gay-pride festival circuit. She also collaborated with TR on “Give Me Tonight,” which danced its way onto the Billboard charts last year.

This weekend, Davis performs at Krave with the Las Vegas Men’s Chorus, which has been singing up a storm since forming in the early ’90s. Take that, American Idol.
