Come Together: Las Vegas Philharmonic and Cirque’s ‘Love’ pair up at Life Is Beautiful

Take a look inside the most unique set of the weekend this Sunday at the Downtown Stage.

The Life Is Beautiful lineup is filled with Vegas bands (Rusty Maples, American Cream, etc.) and acts with Vegas ties (Panic! At the Disco, Jenny Lewis), but some local musicians won’t be wielding guitars, drum sticks or microphones. Members of the Las Vegas Philharmonic have teamed up with performers from Mirage’s resident Cirque show, Love, for a special performance Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on the festival’s Downtown Stage. Phil musicians will treat the audience to 25 minutes of Fab Four hits, at which point aerialists and dancers from the Beatles-centric show will add a splash of color and awe-inspiring visuals for the remainder of the 40-minute set.

“What I tried to do was highlight some of the exciting points,” says Love coach Dan Niehaus. “Introducing some characters, showing off our explosive dancers and introducing more of an acrobatic element, which we haven’t necessarily been able to do outside our theater.”

Niehaus’ musical selections for the collaborative half of the performance include Beatles megahits like “Yesterday,” “Here Comes the Sun,” “Eleanor Rigby” and “Get Back.” “And then we finish, of course, with ‘All You Need Is Love,’ which is very appropriate for the setting.”
