1. The Drums have put themselves in both an enviable and unenviable position. Their past shows in Las Vegas have been so great, so kinetic, expectations are extremely high every time they come to town. The Sayers Club sold out in anticipation of the Brooklyn-based indie/synth/dance-pop group. What we got Tuesday night was yes, another great show, but one that was perhaps just a hair below former efforts at Body English and the Bunkhouse.

2. Newer songs off of 2014 album Encyclopedia seem to be more methodical than past efforts. “I Can’t Pretend” is synthy and effects-heavy, a step in a more polished direction. “I Hope Time Doesn’t Change Him” should thank Morrissey in the liner notes. “Wild Geese” is the type of song that makes you cry when you are fresh off a breakup: “You and me we’re like those/Geese out in the thunder.”

3. Perhaps due to their musical diversity or the epic nature of their live shows, the band draws an extremely varied crowd. Large hipster, gay and Latino groups sang in harmony on classics “Days” and “Money,” the latter of which features one of the great and simple choruses in modern rock, “I want to buy you something/But I don’t have any money/No, I don’t have any money.”

4. Things got taken to an entirely new high during the encore, when the three closing songs—“Forever and Ever Amen,” “Let’s Go Surfing” and “Down by the Water”—brought the audience to a euphoric level. If every member of the crowd didn’t know every word, they knew enough to fake it.

5. On second thought, there’s no way this show didn’t live up to the hype.
