Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ is getting the graphic-novel treatment

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas started out as a Sports Illustrated caption before expanding into a Rolling Stone two-part series and a full-length book. In 1998 Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro starred in a movie adaptation, and now, 38 years after Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo’s famous, drug-dazed trip, a graphic novel is in the works.

Award-winning artist Troy Little teamed up with the Thompson estate to retell the Fear and Loathing, a tale based on two legendary trips to Las Vegas in 1971 taken by writer Hunter S. Thompson and attorney Oscar Acosta—first to cover a Mint 400 motorcycle race and again to attend a drug-enforcement convention.

"I'm so pleased that one of the first collaborative projects to come out of the Top Shelf/IDW relationship will be Troy Little's inspired take on a true classic of American literature," said Chris Staros, editor of Atlanta’s Top Shelf Comics, which will distribute the book. "One of the most unforgettable writers turned loose in one of my favorite cities! We can't wait to show you what Troy's done with it."

The 176-page book is scheduled for an October 2015 release.
