Insurgo received heaps of praise for last year’s run of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, largely thanks to Cory Benway and his portrayal of the title character. That should have been enough to get you off your couch, but in case you didn’t—or if you’d simply like to see a newly produced version of this cult favorite—your opportunity has arrived. Benway returns as Hedwig for a one-night-only performance of John Cameron Mitchell’s rock musical, which follows a fictional rock ’n’ roll band fronted by an East German transgender singer. Benefits from Off Strip Productions’ Hedwig go to Sin Sity Sisters and the Sisters Aids Drug Assistance Program (SADAP), which helps Southern Nevadans living with HIV/AIDS secure their prescribed medications.

Previous Discussion:

  • The play is best thought of as a prequel to Peter Pan—while giving you an almost completely new view of the story.

  • Rick Pulos' solo show felt like a manipulation of sentiment, rather than an actual exploration of character, setting or conflict.

  • The talent onstage could not be denied, which resulted in multiple standing ovations.
