Penn and Teller? Try Prospero and Teller. The latter is co-directing American Repertory Theater’s upcoming production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, which will make its world premiere at the Smith Center’s Symphony Park April 5-13.

The play, which marks the Smith Center’s first co-production, is adapted and directed by Aaron Posner and Las Vegas’ own Teller, whose illusions will be featured in the production to bring the wizardry of protagonist Prospero to life. The production will also feature music by iconic singer-songwriter Tom Waits and choreography by Matt Kent of Pilobolus dance company. Broadway veteran Patrick Page will lead the cast as Prospero.

The innovative interpretation of the Shakespeare classic will be performed outdoors inside a 500-seat climate controlled tent in Symphony Park before moving the American Repertory Theater’s home base in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

“We are thrilled to be presenting The Tempest, our very first co-production, at the Smith Center with A.R.T., one of the most renowned regional theaters in the world,” Smith Center President and CEO Myron Martin said in a statement. “This production of The Tempest will bring Shakespeare’s work to life with incredible staging, magic and movement that audiences of all ages can enjoy.”

Tickets to see the new production cost $35 and go on sale Friday, January 10 through the Smith Center Box office and online at the Smith Center website.
