Shrek the Musical by Super Summer Theatre and Feral Tale Theatricals was the big winner at the sold-out, second annual Las Vegas Valley Theatre Awards at Inspire Theatre, collecting honors for Best Musical, Best Director, Best Actor (for both principal and supporting roles in a musical), Best Ensemble in a musical and Best Costume Design.
A Public Fit’s Foxfinder was the second most decorated with four awards for Best Play, Best Director, Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a play and Best Lighting. Signature Productions’ Mary Poppins took the Audience Choice Awards.
What made the two so successful?
“For Shrek I think it was the one-two punch of having a very talented cast and a vibrant, fun show,” said Theatre Awards organizer and Las Vegas Weekly theater critic Jacob Coakley. “Everyone just shined bringing those characters to vivid life.
“Foxfinder was almost its polar opposite in tone—a taut, dark show—but the way it held its tension throughout and delivered a chilling climax was impressive.”
