As We See It

With rumors about a ride at the Rio, where will the thrills and spills end?

The Rio is reportedly considering putting a zip line between its towers, 357 feet in the air. Take that, SlotZilla!

The Rio zip—a representative could not confirm the project—would run 1,200 feet above the ground at 33 miles per hour. You would start above the VooDoo Lounge and fly over the pool toward the Ipanema Tower. When you got there, you’d travel back, backwards, to the Lounge.

This brings up two questions: 1. Will SlotZilla and Rio zip lines compete with each other, or will they inspire thrill-seekers to fly to Vegas and experience both? And 2. what’s next? Free climbing New York-New York’s Empire State Building replica? Circus-style high diving into shallow Bellagio fountains? BASE jumping from Ghostbar atop the Palms? Parkour at the Fontainebleau construction site? Sliding down the Luxor? Actually, they already did a Luxor slide on Fear Factor. At this rate, it’s just a matter of time before regular old Vegas visitors can take that plunge, too.
