As We See It

Pawn Stars’ is about to be parodied with a production show

The new Golden Nugget show Pawn Shop Live! has a puppet character who looks awfully familiar.

A reality show about a pawn shop might sound like strange source material for a “Broadway-style” stage production, but considering the throngs of people lining up outside Downtown’s Gold and Silver Pawn every day, maybe the Golden Nugget knows what it’s doing.

Pawn Shop Live!, a new parody production show based on the popular Pawn Stars, opens at the Nugget January 21. The show begins with book- and street-smart “Slick Garrison” growing up to ultimately “influence the world with his knowledge and art of the deal.” Then it moves on to focus on how his employees become “international superstars” while running the family business. The best part? Garrison’s father is played by a puppet named “Old Fart.”

It’s weird and it’s wacky, but that’s probably exactly what Pawn Shop Live! is banking on to sell tickets. Who knows? Maybe soon the line outside Golden Nugget’s Gordie Brown Showroom will rival the one right around the corner.
