As We See It

Where’s our Cirque du Soleil reality TV show?

I’m not a dedicated viewer of America’s Got Talent, but when I do watch the program there’s almost always some Cirque du Soleil-esque performer who, while fantastic, doesn’t really have the presence necessary to command a 90-minute stage show.

And so I started thinking: Why doesn’t Cirque have its own performance reality show, akin to Glee’s Oxygen spin-off, The Glee Project? Not only would the world-renowned production company gain even more publicity, it would find rising stars to fill vacancies and new acts to form shows around.

And then there’s the backstage drama … Turns out, we can already see some of that. Cirque actually produced a documentary series called Fire Within about the creation of its Varekai production. Didn’t catch it? Don’t worry, it’s available on DVD.
