After seeing the play Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England in Chicago in May, Todd VonBastiaans and Bryan McCarthy did something quite unusual. They arranged to bring the entire production—cast, crew, even the playwright—to Las Vegas, underwriting a two-week August engagement at Art Square Theatre. Why do it? “When you see a great movie you want to tell everyone to go see it,” VonBastiaans says. “We’re doing the next best thing. We’re picking it up and moving it here.”

The two have also arranged to bring gem-sweater rapping dynamo Leslie Hall back to town this September for a mini residency at Art Square, aka “a bedazzled theatrical experience.” This is their second time bringing Hall to town.

“It’s our gift to everyone living here,” VonBastiaans says of the performances. “We need more quality experiences for people.”
