World's Toughest Mudder 2014 | Lake Las Vegas | November 15, 2014 | 12:54 p.m.

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot a few obstacle courses, and even completed a few myself, but none as challenging as the World’s Toughest Mudder at Lake Las Vegas. The amount of ground it covers is impressive, and just navigating it as a photographer takes time, energy and thought to put yourself in the right spot to get the most dynamic images. Watching participants crawl under barbed wire and into a tube and then fall to the water below at the “Sewage Outlet” obstacle, I was certain a great moment was ready to happen. After a slippery climb I managed to position myself with feet lodged for security, and after a handful of participants, I was lucky enough to time the splash just right. Next year I’ll allow more time and wear better shoes.
