Richard Dunn used his time during an overnight McCarran layover to produce a music video to Celine Dion’s 1996 cover of “All By Myself.”

1. All by himself: Man uses McCarran layover to film Celine Dion music video (June 10) We have a lighting designer from across the country to thank for our most-read story of the year, this web-only brief about Georgia-based Richard Dunn’s viral music video taped overnight at McCarran International Airport. We’re still watching it (so are you) and we’re still big fans of that Flashdance-inspired water-bottle pour at the end (and so are you). Should Dunn’s travels find him stranded in Sin City again, we’re requesting Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

2. Gipsy owner tears down ‘Bar Rescue’ rehab for new dayclub/nightclub concept (January 28) Weekly readers were curious this year about the goings-on at gay nightclub Gipsy following a fiery Bar Rescue episode that focused on renovations at the long-standing Fruit Loop venue. Nightlife editor Mike Prevatt ventured beyond the construction fences to deliver all the details, which then included plans for a summer opening of the upcoming indoor/outdoor danceteria.

3. ‘Bloodletting’ at Downtown Project with massive layoffs (September 30) It seems like the Tony Hsieh-funded Downtown Project redevelopment group is in our headlines every week—and while a lot of our dot-com visitors enjoyed reading about new DTP venues like the Market or the Perch this year, many more responded to our breaking-news story on the layoffs of “approximately” 30 DTP employees.

4. Best of Vegas 2014!(July 17) While not a story itself, the webpage for our annual awards issue—with links to the 130-plus winners offering the best in Vegas food, nightlife and entertainment—took the No. 4 spot this year. Don’t know where to go to dinner tonight? Searching for a great club? Give it (another) read and get to steppin’!

5. Party on: Seven of 10 top-grossing U.S. nightclubs are in Las Vegas (February 28) Nightclub & Bar’s annual list of the nation’s 100 most lucrative clubs was topped by a Vegas venue—with six other Strip-side spots commanding the top 10, which one ranked supreme? Give our No. 5 story a read to find out.

6. An open letter to Tony Hsieh from former DTPer David Gould (September 30) In reaction to the then-impending layoffs at Downtown Project, one employee—a professor from the University of Iowa who took a position with the redevelopment group years after meeting Tony Hsieh at a book tour engagement—took to the keyboard to spell out the reason for his resignation. Not only were Weekly readers interested in learning about the business’s shift in staffing (No. 3 most-read this year), but they also were compelled by this insider viewpoint on DTP itself.

7. Doug Stanhope on Johnny Depp at Target, why comics shouldn’t apologize and how Vegas blew it (September 23) Before Doug Stanhope took the stage at the Plaza earlier this year, we chatted him up about hanging out with Johnny Depp (with “two mountains of f*cking bodyguard guys”) and how Popov vodka is “his brand.”

8. Electric Daisy Carnival unveils 2014 Las Vegas lineup (May 27) EDC is always on our readers’ radars, so it’s not exactly a shocker that the party at the Speedway made it on this year’s top 10. Weeks after the festival sold out, the beatmeisters behind the booths were released—and readers were eager to see who they’d be raving to at the three-day June dance-fest.

9. Electric Daisy Carnival founder announces two new Las Vegas festivals (February 25) It seems our readers aren’t only interested in EDC, but dance-music massives in general. When Insomniac’s Pasquale Rotella announced 702 editions of SoCal dance-music fests Beyond Wonderland and Nocturnal Wonderland, LasVegasWeekly.com visitors were interested in the low-down.

10. 10 must-eat Mexican meals (March 6) Is there really no great Mexican food in Las Vegas? We set out to debunk that silly old claim with this cover story exposing our favorite south-of-the-border grub in the Valley. We’ll meet you at Los Molcajetes.
