Gatsby Gamble

Retrospectively, it would have been interesting if this event were called the Superman Gamble, tied to the release of the film “Man of Steel.” All the invited guests ambling around the ornate, sprawling, multimillion-dollar residence wearing blue tights and capes. Some of the gentlemen dressed as Clark Kent, the ladies as Lois Lane. We already had a Lex Luthor — Frankie Moreno guitarist Russ Letizia.

But the Tuesday night event had a “Great Gatsby” theme. It was dubbed the Gatsby Gamble — a fundraiser held at a Crown Penthouse atop One Queensridge Place in Summerlin. All the guests (well, a high preponderance of guests) donned 1920s-era attire, or threads that would pass as such. The event was to raise money for Three Square food bank, the state’s only food bank, which assists those in need in four Nevada counties (Clark, Nye, Lincoln and Esmeralda). Read about the food bank on North Pecos Road here.

Quite a lot of money was raised from quite a lot of guests at the Gatsby Gamble. Here's a by-the-numbers look at how the gala played out:

250: Number of guests in attendance

18: The number of stories high One Queensridge Place stands, and the floor which the unoccupied Crown Penthouse used for the event occupies

15,560: The size, in square feet, of that high-rising residence

Three: Number of floors in the penthouse

Five: Number of bedrooms in the penthouse

Seven: Number of bathrooms in the penthouse (along with 2 1/2 half-baths)

$15 million: The value of said residence

$330,000: The value of the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase vehicle that toted many VIPs to the party (Towbin Motorcars is where you can snap up one of these babies)

One: Number of cigars you feel compelled to ignite while riding in this wood and hand-stitched leather-appointed car

Zero: The number of cigars you actually ignite because of all that wood and hand-stitched leather

Three: Number of hours the event’s poker tournament lasted

60: Number of minutes Frankie Moreno and his band played during the event

Six: Number of “brown liquid” shots the band was offered during that set

One: Number of Playmates of the Year who played in the poker tournament (Stratosphere “Pin Up” star Claire Sinclair participated)

Six: Number of veggie meatballs prepared by chef Carla Pellegrino that I consumed

$15,000: The amount raised for Three Square

45,000: Number of meals supplied by Three Square the money raised will fund
