Live rock and boobs! Lap dances on the menu at Vegas’ newest music venue

What do bare boobs and local band Lydia Vance have in common? You’ll find both tonight at The Rock Room at Penthouse Club’s opening night.

Indeed, Penthouse Club is the most recent addition to the local music venue pool, and its in-house rock club, The Rock Room, will be opening tonight (March 6th) at 10 p.m. with a show from Lydia Vance, The Stript and 7th Son.

The space dubbed The Rock Room has always existed, but, until recently, wasn’t being utilized. Revamped and redesigned with freshly painted walls, new lights and a stage, the Room features a red and black color scheme with chandeliers, low L-shaped couches and classic strip club tabletops.

With the new music venue springing from the loins of a strip club, guests will find lap dances on the menu, along with cocktails and soon-to-come food.

“That’s one of the things I wanted,” says general manager of The Rock Room/afterhours Jamie Visconte. “We’re having a rock show, but the guy in the back is getting a lap dance, and we might have a girl dancing on the bar topless."

Strippers from Penthouse Club are allowed in The Rock Room and can give dances. The girls are not, however, allowed in during after hours.

“It’s three clubs in one,” Visconte continues. “You come in the door, and you could be here all night. You’ve got the rock and the mash-ups in the Rock Room, you’ve got the house music in the after hours and you’ve got the hip-hop with the dancers. So it’s like three nights, three entities, three different facets. You can go get a lap dance, come back and listen to a band and at 2 or 3 in the morning go see what’s going on in the after hours.”

The Rock Room will host different local rock bands every Friday and Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., at which point a local DJ will take over for the after hours portion of the night spinning rock, hip-hop, house and mash-ups until 7 a.m.

Every Wednesday AC/DC tribute band High Voltage will play inside the venue cover free and Mondays will feature a free poker tournament from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. with play for prizes rather than cash.

For now, The Rock Room will be dark on Tues, Thurs and Sun, but Visconte says he’d like to build up to being open seven days a week. He is full of ideas, all of them seemingly out of place in a strip club, but oh well, it sounds like a party. "We're really able to do anything we want with this room."

Also on the radar to set up shop in the new space are pop cover band Envy, a hypnosis show, Playstation or X Box tournaments and a weekly jazz night.

He also mentioned that the club is in talks with Dave Navarro and the frontman of heavy metal band Anthrax to collaborate on The Rock Room, which would possibly come with a name change to Dead Man’s Hand.

Note that there is no cover charge on Mondays or Wednesdays, only on Fridays and Saturdays if a band is performing. But the ten bucks gets you anywhere in the club, so if you aren't feeling the music just head next door to visit the eager to please dancers. Oh, and don't worry about a collared shirt and slacks--The Rock Room caters to rockers, so "as long as you don't smell" you are welcome to join the fest.
