A scoop of gelato is a small thing, a treat that lasts a few minutes and costs a few dollars. But Gelato Messina is hoping that many scoops might add up to meaningful support for victims of the massive earthquake in Nepal. In the week since it struck, the death toll has reportedly climbed near 7,000, with many others left injured and homeless and the entire country reeling. The magnitude of suffering is hard to fathom, and Gelato Messina—which opened its first U.S. outpost in Downtown Summerlin about a month ago—wants to send help.
“The recent tragic situation in Nepal is very close to our hearts here at Messina. We have a very large family of Nepalese who work across every aspect of our business, many of whom are close friends and have been with us for many years,” reads a post on the Australian company’s Facebook page, along with a photograph of new flavor Knights in Nepal. All proceeds from the flavor (available at Gelato Messina locations across Australia and here in Vegas through May 6) will be matched and donated to the relief efforts of Umbrella Foundation and Charity: Water.
The post continued: “Get involved, grab a scoop, and please, please come by any store and help us bring the Knights in Nepal to the rescue.”
Yogurt and mango gelato swirls with sponge cake smacking of cardamom and rosewater, the fruit base light and sweet and the cake incredibly moist and full of exotic brightness. Like all of the creations at Gelato Messina, Knights in Nepal is made with only fresh, whole ingredients, so you can feel just as good about what’s going in your body as the impact of your $3.50.
