A Main Street coffee shop is getting ready to offer Downtowners a different kind of buzz. Urban coffee bar Makers & Finders has applied for a liquor license and hopes to roll out new alcoholic libations by June, co-owner Valeria Varela says.

The shop, which specializes in Latin comfort food and single-origin coffee products, also plans to expand with a second storefront in Henderson’s Downtown Water Street district, Varela says. The expansion is located on the first floor of Southend on Water, a two-story building at 314 Water St., that will also be home to office, residential and retail spaces.

"We were contacted by [Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects], the firm that is heading the project over there, and we really like their vision,”she says. “They’re really passionate about bringing that community together. In some sense, it’s similar to [Downtown Las Vegas].” Like Makers & Finders’ Downtown store, Varela says the new location will also offer popular Latin dishes, lattes, teas and more, but will be smaller in size.

As for Makers & Finders original location, Varela says they are working on a new brunch concept to debut alongside the new boozy offerings, which include local and craft beer, coffee- and tea-inspired cocktails and wine. “We’re not trying to be a bar,” Varela adds. “We’re just adding a few more options.”
