Della’s does dinner?

Della’s Kitchen is something different. Located in Delano Las Vegas and set away from the casino madness of Mandalay Bay, Della’s actually succeeds on its mission to create an experience of “historic farmhouse meets urban kitchen.” A warm vibe and satisfying breakfast and lunch options made with fresh ingredients are things you can count on here.

But Della’s does something even more different every few months with its Farmhouse Dinner Series. This talented team appreciates the opportunity to stretch out and craft cuisine not normally a part of Della’s repertoire at these special dinner events. Its most recent installment, held February 11, was presented in conjunction with the annual For the Love of Cocktails weekend, which meant each of five courses was paired with a mini-cocktail that also incorporated fresh produce and various spices.

The poached egg was a favorite dish at the February dinner.

The poached egg was a favorite dish at the February dinner.

The meal began with fun hors d’oeuvres including a cheese-stuffed fried green tomato, fried oysters with pickled fennel, and a tiny jar of creamy polenta with roasted mushrooms. The dinner began with a salad of mixed baby lettuces and rich poached pears topped with blue cheese, and then, there was an egg. Not a breakfast egg, but a slow-poached organic egg served in a tiny crock with puffed barley, sharply pickled mushrooms, onion puree and brioche toast. This was a favorite dish of the night.

The dinner’s main dishes were a “seafood sampler” of roasted cod, smoked clam and brandade croquette, and then a beautifully roasted filet of beef over a bed of tender, savory braised beef shortrib with carrots and potatoes. Rum-orange blossom ice cream and chocolate-hazelnut cake topped everything off.

The price of the special event dinner was $95, standard for the Farmhouse Dinner Series. It resumes with two more magnificent meals this year, on June 23 and December 2. Make plans to check it out.
