Dining News & Notes: Lots of restaurant openings and closings

The short-lived, Southern-style Meat & Three was one of several recent restaurant closings.

Restaurants open and restaurants close; that’s the way it goes. South Point celebrated the grand opening of Zenshin this week, an Asian eatery from veteran chef Terence Fong. Seafood chain Bonefish Grill opened March 18 at Town Square, and former Palazzo resident Mexican restaurant Dos Caminos opened in the former Agave space in Summerlin on March 11. Radio City Pizza and Rachel’s Kitchen have opened Downtown, too.

All this new stuff might help make up for losses at Venetian, where Rattlecan and First Food & Bar have shuttered and the long-acclaimed Valentino will close in June. No word yet whether chefs Sam DeMarco and Luciano Pellegrini will pursue other local projects. A few weeks back, Meat & Three quietly closed near Anthem. Chef/owner Chris Herrin decided to focus his efforts on his original neighborhood joint, Bread & Butter, and sadly sold his Southern-style cafeteria after just a few months in business.

Take heart, locals. Mood at the Artisan Hotel is offering 30 percent off for locals throughout March and April, a good excuse to check out an old-schoolish restaurant. And if you’re in the mood to cook, Megan Romano continues her cool classes at Chocolate & Spice. On tap for March 27 is a lesson on Guinness-braised oxtail and mushroom risotto and other slightly boozy dishes. The cost is $75 for the 6 p.m. class. For more info, call 527-7772.
