Dining News & Notes: Parma, Bar & Bistro close their doors

Image
We will miss the fresh pastas at Parma so much.

Two favorite neighborhood restaurants have shuttered. Downtown at the Arts Factory, Bar & Bistro has closed. A note on the door thanks patrons for their support. And Parma, a masterpiece of rustic Italian food opened in 2009 just off Summerlin Parkway, closed recently. Chef and owner Marc Sgrizzi said his business had dipped slightly, perhaps due to the arrival of Downtown Summerlin. Sgrizzi continues to do catering and operate two locations of his Novecento pizzeria and said he is working on plans for a new restaurant.

Andiron Steak & Sea at Downtown Summerlin is hosting a whiskey pairing dinner July 29 at 7 p.m. created by managing partners Joe Zanelli and Steve Jerome. The four-course experience is $90 and will include dishes such as sea scallop with summer corn, grilled prime NY strip and chocolate mousse tart. Make reservations at 702-685-8002. Also new at Andiron is the summer tasting menu ($55), curated by Zanelli and available through August. Three courses begin with a choice of roasted corn soup, the Andiron Caesar or yellowtail crudo. The entrée could be Mary’s Organic chicken with corn pudding and fava beans, Scottish salmon with a Serrano ham crust or grilled skirt steak with wood-fired asparagus and king trumpet mushrooms, and dessert is a choice of crème brûlée donuts or cherry almond cake.

Table 10 at Palazzo is matching food with beer from five different breweries for a special dinner on July 31 at 7 p.m. Firestone Walker, Brooklyn Brewery, New Belgium, Samuel Smith and Victory Brewing suds will be paired with chef Tim Doolittle’s creations such as warm figs with arugula and Spanish almonds, ale-battered grouper tacos and Wagyu skirt steak with glazed chanterelles. The price is $75 and reservations can be made at 702-607-6363.
