Las Vegas DJ Keith Evan has relentlessly played a major role in the local house movement since his arrival in 2000. However, his musical journey dates back to 1990 when he was first introduced to the underground movement in Los Angeles, where he grew up. During his teen years Keith showed continued support to the house scene primarily in the Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco arenas. "I feel so blessed that I was fathered into this culture at such an early stage of this movement. I knew from day one this was what I wanted to be a part of for the rest of my life," Keith says.
During the summer of 1994, Keith moved to Northern California to study sociology at Humboldt State University. It was there that he began to adopt a new hobby of spinning records and established his first parties. Keith began with E-Bound Productions, which held countless events, and after the completion of his degree in 1996, Keith moved back to the Inland Empire. Immediately, he began a Wednesday night event in Pomona, Calif. titled "Rules of the House" where he was the resident DJ solely spinning deep house grooves.
In the summer of 1997, Keith left the U.S. for Margarita Isle, Venezuela where he played at venues such as The Eye and The Nickel, two afterhours clubs on the island. Many locals there claimed that Keith was the first DJ to introduce the deep house sound. After two years of traveling in countries such as Venezuela, Holland, and Germany, Keith Evan returned to the U.S. to continue his calling.
Of the house music scene in Las Vegas, Keith says, "This city is as hungry as it gets for some deep soul-filled house music. God has truly blessed my path in life by placing me in this city at this time!" Since his arrival in Vegas, Keith has held a plethora of residencies and made appearances in just about every club in town including The House of Blues (Spanda Room, The Crossroads, OBA), The Foundation Room (Godspeed), Utopia (The Legendary Patio), Empire Ballroom ("The Patio") Baby's at The Hard Rock, Rain, Nine, Ghostbar, Nove, Moon and The Playboy Club, Voodoo Lounge and many more.
Currently, Keith can be seen at his monthly event with Carlos Sanchez, Soundbar, held at Ghostbar, which has been running for nine years. The event was the first of its kind in Vegas, dedicated to deep house and has played host to artists such as Doc Martin, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, Kerri Chandler, Jon Cutler, King Britt, Mr. V, Alix Alvarez and many others as well as all of the top local house DJs Vegas has to offer. Keith also plays residencies at Moon at The Palms, Koi Restaurant and the new deep house weekly party, Origin, at Teatro with DJ Halo.
Keith has also ventured into the production side of things, completing a track with Audio Soul Project artist, Freddy Montanez. He continues to work on projects with partners Carlos Sanchez (House Society) and Halo (City Deep Music), but says, "I am in no rush at this time to be releasing material. My focus at this time remains in Las Vegas' best interest with the house scene here. My hands are extremely full right now. Though now, I can see the light and I feel I am surrounded by some of the greatest DJs and artists, and I am blessed to have great relationships with those individuals. I believe that when the time is right for that part of my career, then I will step up to the plate."
As a DJ Keith shows great passion, knowledge, patience, and also incredible resilience to push house music to a community desperately in need. "I feel like we as a community haven't even scraped the surface of what we can do together. Personally speaking, I feel the same about where I am going. All of these dedicated years have brought me to this point. I am so excited about the future for Las Vegas and for the future of my career."
