Music

’Tis the season

We may hate Christmas materialism—especially when the holiday season always seems to ramp up before Thanksgiving. But Christmas music? That’s another thing altogether. It’s those great holiday gems that make the season so lovely.

We’re talking Nat Cole singing about chestnuts roasting on an open fire, or a symphony galloping through “Sleigh Ride.” And this week the place to get your fill of yuletide tunes is with the Las Vegas Philharmonic’s Christmas Pops show.

We’d tell you what was on tap, but the surprise of the performance is that conductor David Itkin will announce the evening’s selections during the show. Kind of like opening your presents. We’re sure, though, that the Christmas Pops will feature appearances by the Las Vegas Master Singers choir and the University Children’s Choral, and will showcase soloists Joan Sobel (soprano), Leslie Harper (mezzo-soprano), Matt Newman (tenor) and Tod Fitzpatrick (baritone).
