Where in the world is Greg Neely?!

It was a sad moment for the Weekly to have to amend the final draft of last week’s “Nightclub Obituaries” feature to include news of an actual passing. Word reached us just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, of the death of former Ice Meta_Club owner Greg Neely. Now in his mid-60s, Neely shared with close friends and loyal co-workers around the time of Ice’s closure that he had been diagnosed with cancer. And so, rounding up the details of the club’s closure, it was sobering to slip “the late” in front of Neely’s name, and also sad and darkly ironic. Especially since Greg Neely is alive.

“I don’t know who started that rumor,” says Neely, very much alive and receiving cancer treatments in Ohio. But the Weekly now does. Early last Wednesday morning, a go-go dancer and former Ice regular was reportedly found by another friend of Neely’s, sobbing over his apparent death. Immediately notified were Neely’s closest co-workers and mentees, who were understandably shocked. The Weekly has never been happier to be on the receiving end of a false report than now, as Neely confirmed, via text, his outpatient status in Steubenville, Ohio. “Thanks for caring,” he says to all those who were distressed last week. No comment from the dancer …

As it turns out, sometimes, you do need a Plan C. As previously reported in the Weekly, Rick’s Cabaret (formally Scores) was to continue Vegas Club Scene’s Plan B Afterhours. But almost immediately after the takeover, those intentions were abandoned and Plan B (no longer called Plan B and no, not being called Plan C) has since moved for the third time, over to the Penthouse Club. Multiple former Scores employees and dancers have also parted ways with Rick’s.

“The adult industry has had a lot of big moves in the past 12 months,” says Mark Wiley, former director of marketing for Scores, now working with Penthouse. Especially noteworthy is one-time Spearmint Rhino manager and promotions director Guy Wilson, who has also joined the Penthouse staff. “He’s a key reason why Rhino was so successful,” Wiley says. “Penthouse is making a play for the best staff, the best girls, and the locals can come and have fun for cheap.” Music to our recession-era ears.

The new Penthouse afterhours is slated to begin next weekend in Penthouse’s Key Lounge. Wiley says the lounge alone is “about the size of Seamless or Tabu” and has its own bar and restrooms and plenty of seating. “The concept is to make things affordable and fun,” he says, and the current economy is one reason there will be no cover charge and weekly specials. The afterhours event will begin at 2 a.m., Thursdays through Sundays. According to Vegas Club Scene’s Brett Pojunis, DJ Double J will continue as resident, along with a rotating DJ lineup over the next few weeks. “We’re not looking for the short-term,” says Wiley. “We’re looking to build one of the top afterhours of the decade.” It’s made more moves than a dancer around a pole, so the Weekly sincerely hopes the new afterhours party has found a permanent home this time—we’re running out of Plan B jokes. It looks like partying with stars among the cars is going to have to wait. The Ultra Lounge at Dal Toro & Lamborghini Las Vegas was originally slated to begin exclusive Saturday-night parties over a month ago. It did not. Friday and Saturday’s Ultra Happy Hour has also been suspended indefinitely, following the departure of David Rivera and much of the nightlife-related staff. “Everything is still on hold right now,” says assistant restaurant manager Rex Herman. He adds that the venue is concentrating on private events in the Lamborghini showroom. Herman says Dal Toro is considering different avenues and will eventually launch the Ultra Lounge concept further down the road. Ha! Road.
