My daughter passed away in ’05. In my dream I had to perform the autopsy. I then saw her head in a bag. Then suddenly I’m falling over the deck of our house. I tried to grab on to my husband but he let me fall. I woke up shaking. My daughter was 20 when she passed. She took an overdose of illegal drugs, while I was at work and my husband was at the home. She left behind my grandson that we are raising. She had a drug addiction that we were unaware of. It was a terrible shock. – Jamie, Outer Banks, NC

Lauri: I am very sorry for your loss. I believe your dream is about you trying to figure out her mindset. An autopsy is performed to figure out the cause of death. So in your dream you are trying to figure out why she would get to the point that she would use drugs AND use them to the degree that it would kill her. “What could I have done to save her? What did I do wrong that led her to this point? What the Hell was she thinking?” And this is why you saw her head in a bag. Her head is about her mindset. “Where was her head? Why didn’t she know better?” The falling part of your dream means you are falling into a depression, which is understandable. And your husband lets you fall because a part of you may feel he “let you down” since this happened while he was there. This dream is showing you that you need to find a support group or a counselor, something that will help you let go of the guilt and anger and lift you back up.

Jamie replies: There is so much guilt that I deal with daily; what could I have done differently, could I have prevented it from happening, etc. I never put the two together. Thank you so much for your thoughtful insight into what it means, again many thanks!
