How Déjà Vu got me out of bed

Friday night at 2:15, after a night on the town, I sent out a tweet saying that I “went home early” and that I’d be “awake again in 12 hours.” Nine minutes later I said “Disco nap + Red Bull = party time, round 2! Where’s the party?” To which a friend responded that the party was at Déjà Vu Erotic Ultra Lounge, which hosts a nice afterhours. At this point I had already taken off my false eyelashes and was in bed. This would normally be the point of no return. “Leaving Henderson in 10” I texted my friend from my dark bedroom. I fixed up my makeup and left. I made sure to put my sunglasses in my purse because I knew I wasn’t going to be driving home while the sun was down.

Déjà Vu Erotic Ultra Lounge used to be Seamless. I hadn’t been there since before it switched over, so I was curious to see how much it had changed. It’s still part strip club, part nightclub, but it feels more like a nightclub now, I think. The go-go dancers have two of their own full stages, which are surrounded by chairs making the go-go dancers a bigger part of the entertainment than they used to be. Before, they would dance in a tiny strip of a platform behind the bottle-service area.

It seemed like there were a conspicuously low number of strippers present for a Friday night. It seemed like there were a lot more in Seamless times. I remember fighting for mirror space in the bathroom because there were so many. The place was crawling with them.

I sat in a dark-red booth near the DJ with my friend. The DJ who was about to take over sat in our booth. It was his birthday, and a box of candle-lit cupcakes appeared at our table. There were amazing flavors, like Creamsicle, apple cider and chocolate-covered banana topped with walnuts. I ate a peanut butter and jelly cupcake with my vodka Red Bull while watching the go-go dancers onstage. They were quite good, actually—much better dancers than the strippers were. The go-go dancers wore gold bikini tops with matching gold garter belts and shaggy black boot covers.

After a few drinks, I had to make a trip to the bathroom. Even if I didn’t have to “go,” I had to go see the bathroom. Seamless had one of the most interesting nightclub bathrooms I had ever seen. The coed bathrooms had individual stalls with glass doors that are transparent when unlocked but become frosted and opaque when you lock them. So if your lock is faulty, everyone can watch you pee or, you know, whatever you’re doing in there. This gives me a little anxiety. I know that when I’m sitting on their toilets I try to pee like I’m being watched, just in case. Déjà Vu Erotic Ultra Lounge still has the exact same bathroom, by the way. Make sure your door is locked.
