We’ve got tapas bars. We’ve got food trucks. Are nifty little bodegas the next big-city foodie staple to land in Las Vegas? To find out, we took a stroll through two cool markets opened in recent months.

Okay, it’s kind of hard to call it a neighborhood bodega if it’s on the Strip, but Market Café Vdara (CityCenter, 866-760-2489) must be completely convenient for those few folks who call CityCenter home. It’s fancy and full of wine, cheese, packaged Boar’s Head meats and Dean & Deluca snacks and seasonings. It’s basically a gourmet food store packed with conventioneers barking for coffee, but they’re brewing it fresh and serving it up next to awesome frosted cinnamon rolls, huevos rancheros and patty melts.

Downtowners are equally excited about the even smaller Resnicks Grocery (Soho Lofts, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 982-2999), which is the real deal. There are actual groceries here: fresh produce, milk, even Campbell’s chicken noodle soup next to the Wolfgang Puck-brand cans. Like Vdara’s spot, Resnicks closes at 8 p.m., a bit early for Vegas, right? But these guys just got a liquor license, and they’re planning on making even more sandwiches and goodies in-house. Plus, they have a secret weapon: the fantastic local Bon Breads delivered fresh daily.
