As We See It

You can do it, Carolyn Goodman!

It seemed oddly appropriate that Carolyn Goodman ran on a platform of continuing her husband’s term limits-shortened legacy. After all, he is the city’s most famous mayor, one who courted as much success as he did controversy. Who wouldn’t want to be connected to that come voting day? What remains to be seen is if our new mayor continues to sing his praises or gets down to the business of running the city. While she seems to be hinting changes are afoot, including the elimination of Oscar’s “flashier” aspects (showgirls and the throne, anyone?), we’re hoping Carolyn will take it a step further and cease the constant Oscar references altogether. After all, he isn’t mayor anymore—right? And Carolyn is her own woman—right? It was a bit tough to tell last week when, during an annual meeting for the Arts District, Carolyn could barely refrain from “Oscar and I” references regarding her husband’s support for the arts. Carolyn, you’re our mayor now. You’ll make mistakes, you’ll have victories, you’ll have to make hard decisions. But the people of Las Vegas want to know it’s you in that mayor’s chair, not you and Oscar. Really, it’s not big enough for the both of you.
