False Horizons: Sam Davis has been hauling his airships, vintage toy robots and atomic rockets around the desert for years for photo sessions with tintype and pinhole cameras, resulting in landscapes blending nostalgia, ethereal wonderment and science fiction. The Southern California resident, who received his MFA from UNLV, returns to Trifecta Gallery this month with this mixed-media exhibition of his cast-iron blimps and aircraft, laser wood etchings, photographs and wax paintings. “It’s got everything and is unmistakably Davis,” says gallery owner Marty Walsh. “He’s using lots of new media to present these old things he’s been thinking about all his life.”

Skull: Chris Bauder rounded up more than 20 people for this group show of mostly male artists portraying the human skull in various mediums. Bauder provided few guidelines, preferring to see what they’d come up with. See the results—sequined devil sculptures to sketches to two-dimensional mixed-media works—from Bauder and the likes of JW Caldwell, Evan Dent, Mike Ogilvie, James Pink, Sean Russell, Aaron Sheppard, Rachel Sparrow, Lance Smith and Jesse Carson Smigel.
