Where's the beefy outrage?
Another day, another downed patron at the Heart Attack Grill, a chain known for its fat-laden meals. This time, a woman fell unconscious at the restaurant and had to be wheeled out by paramedics. And the media is all over this, because downing a 10,000-calorie burger and collapsing is news to us. We’ve turned eating into a grim spectator sport. The question isn’t “When will this stop?”; it’s “Who’s next?”

Idol thoughts
American Idol Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks will be headlining at Bally’s for eight weeks, starting on June 26. While some Idol winners have gone on to be among music’s most successful performers (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood), Hicks hasn’t released an album since 2009, and his total album sales are under 1 million. Still, he could do well here, but our biggest concern is that tourists will see his billboards and just assume Jay Leno is back in town.

Outside the mailbox
In an effort to save the U.S. Postal Service from insolvency, lawmakers have proposed a bill that would push all future delivery to the community mailbox system, a move that could save up to $9.6 billion a year. We can already hear the outrage from the rest of the country, but here in Southern Nevada, where community boxes are the norm, door-to-door mail delivery seems as antiquated as the Pony Express.
