Extreme Thing 2012 adds a little MMA to this year’s festival

Image

Heavy music. Skateboards. Dirt bikes. Wrestling. Sounds like a serious collection of extremeness, no? Not quite enough, apparently, for the folks behind Las Vegas’ annual Extreme Thing festival. So they’ve introduced two new elements for this weekend’s edition: MMA and dubstep. Surely, no one would dispute the extreme nature of a sport that features facial kicks and choke holds. As for dubstep, well, we’ll let you be the judge of Skrillex’s badassitude.

The Details

Extreme Thing
March 31, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., $17-$20
Desert Breeze Park, extremething.com

If you’re not into dubstep, Extreme Thing 2012 should have plenty of other sounds on its five stages to keep your ears occupied. Acts scheduled to play include The Used, Underoath, Falling in Reverse, Less Than Jake, Unwritten Law, Anti-Flag, Twiztid, Mickey Avalon, Zebrahead, Polar Bear Club and locals Ministry of Love and This Romantic Tragedy. And if you need a break from guitars, there are rap battles, wrestling exhibitions and amateur MMA fights galore, plus a pro BMX challenge hosted by Ricardo Laguna. Still not extreme enough for ya? You could always bring some glass to chew on.
