From Tupac’s roving ghost to a cursed casino and a star-studded pet cemetery, our city’s paranormal legends come alive in Haunted Las Vegas. In 20 years as a resident, author Paul Papa has worked as a security officer and hotel investigator on the Strip, developing “a love for writing true stories about uncommon events.” Tales of the living here are uncommon enough, but Papa scoured museums and historical archives and chronicled personal accounts in an effort to collect the best anecdotes about ghostly presences and places. Here are a few choice excerpts:

Carluccio’s Tivoli Gardens “Besides the women’s restroom, the Piano Lounge is the most frequent source of paranormal activity. Employees have reported seeing Liberace standing behind them as they cleaned. The fake trees in the room have been known to shake, and people have been sighted walking in after hours, yet when the room was checked, no one was there.”

Las Vegas Hilton “Elvis has also been seen running to the stage in his white jumpsuit, vanishing if anyone tries to talk to him. Others have reported seeing him driving his signature Cadillac out by the parking garage. Many have mistaken the ghost for an Elvis impersonator—that is, until Elvis drives the Caddy into a concrete retaining wall and vanishes.”

Kiel Ranch “Of course, this is Las Vegas, after all, and there is certainly a chance that the two apparitions are simply two unhappily married men who moved to Las Vegas, hoping for a quickie divorce. Maybe the two are running from the commitments they made, terrified that their exes might still be trying to find them.”
