Always a favorite among local karaoke enthusiasts, Ellis Island Casino hosts the finals of its Ellis Icon competition September 8 at 8 p.m. More than 250 singers have been whittled down to a talented 12, who will perform this Saturday for $17,000 to be split among the top three winners. Show up early to test your pipes at a pre-party from 6-8 p.m. with outdoor karaoke, barbecue and plenty of Ellis Island’s craft beer.

Vegas nightclubs regularly get national press—from Rolling Stone, MTV and every single tabloid ever. But GQ’s September issue offers a look at Marquee that’s less about A-list gossip and more about the incredible, overwhelming experience of a $500,000 night at the Cosmopolitan club. After you read the story, be sure to watch the accompanying video “Best Night Ever” by Queen of Versailles director Lauren Greenfield. The video’s obvious stars are “customers” Lucas and Ariano, an accented pair of playboys who visit Marquee once a month and are so entertaining we think they deserve their own reality show. Bravo, MTV, TLC, are you listening?

Among the celebrities staking out tables in Las Vegas over Labor Day Weekend—P. Diddy, Jenna Jameson, every-DJ-you-can-name-in-10-seconds—was swift-swimming Olympic hero Michael Phelps, who celebrated his record-setting 22 medals with fellow Olympians Nathan Adrian, Allison Schmitt and Charlie Houchin at Encore Beach Club and spent his “first night of retirement” listening to Afrojack at Surrender. And the Olympian appearances are nowhere near over. Just check out Hot Spots to see which other gold medalists will be on the Strip soon.
