Downtown Vegas’ music scene is about to get an LA infusion. Starting April 5, the Sessions First Friday concert series will bring up-and-coming artists performing original songs and renditions of popular tunes to Fremont East.

The Details

SESSIONS
April 5, 9 p.m., $10.
El Cortez, 385-5200.

Sessions was inspired by LA’s hole-in-the-wall indie-music scene. “Why not bring them here?” asks Vanessa Yerushalmi, a partner in Creative Alliance, which is producing the concerts.

When Yerushalmi and partner Blake Levin approached El Cortez Executive VP Alex Epstein with the concept for Sessions, the casino welcomed the series, which is also sponsored by United Nissan and Allegiant Air.

“The artists are eclectic and super-talented. Every month will bring something new that gives locals a chance to connect with the artists,” Yerushalmi explains. “Unsigned, soulful, exceptional talent.” Each concert will feature three or four bands playing 20-minute sets on a central stage. Dig Dug will DJ between acts from a corner booth.

Initially, the venue will be El Cortez’ intimate Fiesta Room—a 200-capacity ballroom on the hotel’s southeast corner. Starting in June, the concerts will move to the El Cortez rooftop, with triple the capacity.
