Tony’s Teslas: Downtown Project to launch car sharing program

Downtown’s new vehicle of choice?

Never let it be said that Tony Hsieh doesn’t go big. To provide transportation options for Las Vegas, Hsieh’s Downtown Project is launching Project 100, which allows users to borrow a car, hire a driver or take a bike for a ride. Cool, right? But we’re a bit perplexed that Hsieh found it necessary to buy 100 Teslas as part of the venture. Sure, they’re electric, environmentally friendly and pretty cute, but these babies can cost north of $100,000. Couldn’t he have started this fleet with, say, some Priuses or Volts and used the money he saved to buy … more bikes?
