As We See It

How to make 51s baseball even better

Image

It’s still pretty iffy, but there’s talk of the Las Vegas 51s moving to Summerlin. The Howard Hughes Corporation and Steve Mack are currently working to buy the team, and if successful, they plan to move the 51s to a $65 million stadium near the Red Rock Casino.

The details have yet to be spelled out, so allow us to suggest some features for the new stadium: 1) Better access. Anyone who’s been to a 51s game at Cashman Field knows the headache involved with both getting into the park and getting out. 2) Two words: indoor ballpark. Las Vegas summers are brutally hot 24/7, and night games are just not a solution. Air-conditioned afternoon games? Yeah, that’s the ticket. 3) Local beers on tap. What better way to promote Nevada’s fantastic craft brewers than to pair their products with a hot dog or bag of peanuts?
