Damien Hirst’s Spot prints coming to MCQ Fine Art

British artist Damien Hirst’s 2012 Spot woodcuts will be exhibited at MCQ Fine Art in Las Vegas starting January 31.

When you live in Las Vegas you rarely get the chance to say, “I think I’m going to check out that Damien Hirst exhibit.” It’s just one of those things.

But give it time … like, say, four weeks. That’s when MCQ Fine Art opens its installation of Hirst’s 2012 Spot woodcut prints. Titled 40 Spot Woodcuts, the exhibit is presented as an instillation and includes 40 Spot prints purchased through Paragon Press in London and inspired by Hirst’s “phenomenal love of color.”
Michele Quinn saw a handful of the prints last summer at Art Basel in Switzerland and arranged the exhibit. Similar to Hirst’s Spot paintings, both lambasted and adored by critics, the spots, arranged in an impeccable, orderly fashion, vary in color and size. Some include a singular spot. Some feature multiples in rows. Despite the formaldehyde and pills, the Spot works are among the most recognizable Hirsts.
The exhibit opens January 31 at MCQ Fine Art, 620 S. 7th Street, 366-9339.
