• 1. Download a car-finder app before you hit the Speedway so you’ll be able to track down your ride quickly under the strobe lights.

• 2. Leave your ninja stick at home. Security won’t care that the giant metal weapon is “just for dancing.”

• 3. Don’t show up trashed. Sure, it’s tempting to get so wrecked before you arrive that your buzz will last till dawn, but stumbling through the turnstiles is a good way to guarantee you’re denied entrance altogether.

• 4. Before you hit the road, check the Twitter feed of @HelicopterKen for live updates on EDC traffic.

• 5. While you’re at it, consider the 215. Last year, taking the long way around was far faster than joining the stop-and-go mess on more direct routes.

• 6. Wear something ridiculous. It’s your last chance before October to dress like a glow-in-the-dark zoo animal without getting dirty looks.

• 7. Wear appropriate footwear. But I’m going to party all night and I need to look cute! You know what isn’t cute? Walking barefoot on blacktop.

• 8. Ride the rides. Experience the art. Play with the performers. You could just stare at a DJ all night, but that would be missing the point.

• 9. If you’re meeting up with friends, decide on a time and place before you get in the car to drive to the Speedway. To say cell service there is “bad” sugarcoats the truth. It’s awful.

• 10. Take a nap before you go. Seriously. Naps are awesome.
