Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend

The Orleans is about to welcome 20,000 diehard rockabilly fans, 120 vendors, 20-plus DJs, 65 live bands and close to 1,000 classic cars for the biggest rockabilly extravaganza anywhere. The Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend will blow out 16 candles this year, and the party includes competitions for burlesque and old-school dancing (plus lessons, so you can do some of that old-school dancing), a vintage fashion show, daily Tiki-themed pool parties, burlesque bingo, an outrageous bowling event and a brand new attraction dedicated to one of the patron saints of the rockabilly aesthetic. That would be Sailor Jerry, and Vegas’ own StedFast Tattoo Parlor will be hosting VLV’s Sailor Jerry ink lounge at the fest. On the live-music side, the lineup ranges from rock to doo-wop, with such headliners as Little Richard, Dick Dale, The Rockcats and The Cleftones. Magazines are quick to say that events have “something for everyone,” but this one has pin-up makeovers and a men’s swimwear battle. Come on.
