Never underestimate the power of waiving a fee.

The Animal Foundation’s Doggone Homes Fee-Waived Weekend from September 4-7 was an unqualified success, adopting out 364 adoptable dogs—every single one on the list, according to Meghan Scheibe, head of marketing for the Foundation.

It was the second such weekend the Foundation has held, waiving adoption fees that can range from $105 to $250. Those fees typically include spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, vaccines and more. The adoption fee revenue goes to the care the animals receive after their legal-hold period (the first 72 hours) expires.

Scheibe says that, thanks to the success of the most recent weekend, there is much more space than normal in the Foundation’s dog adoption area, and they anticipate more than 1,800 dogs entering in just the next month alone. “We’re so grateful to the members of the community who came out and adopted,” she says.

In the meantime, the Foundation still has more than 120 pets available for adoption, including cats, rabbits, birds, turtles and more. And while no fee-waived weekends are currently planned, Scheibe says to look forward to other “great adoption” programs soon.

The Animal Foundation is at 655 N. Mojave Road. For more information, call 702-384-3333.
