Toruk promises to transport viewers to the world of Avatar.

Cirque du Soleil has seven permanent resident shows in seven different casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. But come January, its new touring production will settle into T-Mobile Arena for a five-day limited engagement.

Toruk – The First Flight, inspired by James Cameron’s record-breaking film Avatar, will transform T-Mobile into Pandora for one week, January 18-22. Show writers and directors Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon and their creative team collaborated under Cirque’s Guy Laliberté and Jean François Bouchard and Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment team to produce the show—Cirque’s 37th production since 1984—opening October 27 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

The “live immersion experience” is a story set thousands of years before the events of Avatar, following “two Omatikaya boys on the brink of adulthood who fearlessly decide to take matters into their own hands” when a “natural catastrophe threatens to destroy the sacred Tree of Souls.” Toruk emphasizes the idea of interconnectedness of all living things as portrayed by Pandora’s Na’vi beings in the movie.

Cirque is also launching a Toruk app, available now on iTunes, that allows its audience to be part of the action before, during and after the performance, which will also visit Los Angeles, Sacramento and Phoenix in November prior to its Vegas stop. Tickets will be available Friday at cirquedusoleil.com/toruk.
