THE CONSUMER: Strip It Up

In Vegas, skin is always in

When it comes to lingerie, Las Vegas has got it going on. Especially now that sexy dress is at a new level of cool, thanks to the social acceptance of the striptease and other risqué business.

Take, for instance, the recent opening of the Champagne Suzy Boutique, the latest sexy dress shop to enter the ever-growing Las Vegas lingerie arena. It's right next to van Kane's popular burlesque club Forty Deuce inside the Mandalay Bay.

Live models showcase the goods in windows much like those lusty ladies in Amsterdam's red-light district. Inside Champagne Suzy's, you'll find a whole slew of titillating classic underthings and accessories that make a striptease work, such as corsets, gloves, boas and dusters that sparkle. You'll also find gowns, tiaras, stockings and other surprises. If you're looking for cutesy camisoles and matching bottoms with Hello Kitty or cartoon florals in all the colors of the candy-coated rainbow, check out Samantha Chang at Mandalay Place. For haute couture skivvies with an international flair of sophistication and luxury, take a twirl over to the Forum Shops at Caesars where the current masters of the classic lingerie universe, Agent Provocateur, set up shop last fall.

"Las Vegas was the perfect fit for obvious reasons," says Serena Rees. "It's a fun and sexy town where people like to feel quite sexy."

A visit to the store is a lot like sneaking a peak at the villainess costume collection in the James Bond Costume Museum—if such a place actually existed. Customers have to ask the staff to help them for sizes as only one is displayed. Local clients include production show costumers along with exotic dancers, brides, women who love fine lingerie and gentlemen who like to see their ladies in fine lingerie.

If the prices at Agent Provocateur are a problem, there's always the Victoria's Secret Concept Store down the way. The Playboy Store across from Victoria's Secret is better for bunny types.

Gentlemen don't despair; you've got your strip shop, too. The Chippendales store inside the Rio sells souvenirs from the all-male revue, along with men's thongs, vests and those Velcro-sided, easy-to-rip-off silk tuxedo pants, fringed cowboy chaps and carpenter-style jeans for all kinds of titillation needs.
