Paparazzi Lightning ***
The Austin, Texas, duo’s irresistible 2006 album Paparazzi Lightning isn’t your garden-variety electro exercise. Vocalist Aaron Behrens yelps like a scruffy punk, roughing up the disc’s otherwise smooth French electro-funk and souled-out Moroder sparkle. Flamboyant flourishes—“Sad Sad City” struts like Queen at a roller-disco, and the midnight-hued title track features seedy Miami Vice-noir synths—further retro-fit Lightning’s tunes.
