Comedy

Jim of all trades

Julie Seabaugh

Not only has he published his own comedy zine and contributed to everything from The Advocate and The Huffington Post to US Weekly, but Jim David has also written, directed and acted in regional and off-Broadway shows since he was 9 years old. As a comic, he’s a little sociopolitical, a little relationshippy, a little character-driven, and equally adept at dropping one-liners and weaving together long-form stories. Comedy Central Presents, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and the Friars Club roasts have all come a-calling, and he’s got two CDs and a one-man show to his name. But above all, he’s firmly ahead of the game: “I used to get booed in Las Vegas two or three years ago when I made a George Bush joke. Now they laugh, and nobody boos because things have changed.”

April 28-May 4, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., $25. The Riviera Comedy Club, 794-9433.
